Birth Doula | Postpartum Doula | Herbalism & Aromatherapy
Maranda is a DONA International trained birth doula and a Matrona postpartum doula. She also practices herbalism, flower essence therapy, and aromotherapy.
How did you decide to become a doula?
Being a mother of three, my own birthing experiences varied greatly. I've experienced induction, unmedicated birth, and an epidural. Each pregnancy was so different and my support needs were just as diverse. Through trial, error, and much reflection I found that what I truly needed was a doula. It then became my passion to be that person to other families in need of the same care that I was lacking. My personal connections to pregnancy, birth, and female empowerment are so fundamental to my love of doula work. I truly feel that being a doula is a big part of my purpose in life.
What's your favorite way to spend a day off?
Even though I'm a rare Asheville-native, my favorite thing to do is explore my city. I like to find random cafes to read in, new trails to hike, and new food to try. I love the diversity of Asheville!
If you could take a month long trip anywhere in the world, where would you go?
That's a hard question to answer! At the moment, I could say Mexico. I have always been in love with Mexico and its culture. The people, the brightness, the beaches, and the FOOD especially, just speak to my heart.
You have a whole weekend to binge watch TV, what's on your list?
I love some good nerdy fantasy and Sci-Fi... So Harry Potter and Stranger Things would be on the list. Along with some "girly" watches like Gilmore Girls, You've Got Mail, and maybe Outlander and Game of Thrones too!
Tell us something about yourself that we may be surprised to learn.
I think most people would find it surprising how much I'm obsessed with mythology and Joseph Campbell and The Real Housewives at the same time.
