How did you decide to become a doula?
My doula journey began when a beloved family member experienced birth trauma. When this birth trauma triggered a lengthy, challenging postpartum period, we were all caught off guard. I was lucky enough to be part of a large family where we could offer support navigating that challenging time; however, it struck me that not everyone has that same support. I became a doula because I truly believe that everyone deserves community support during important life transitions, including birth and parenthood. It has been my honor to share this time with parents and their little ones ever since.
What's your favorite way to spend a day off?
I love to toss snacks, a book, and my banjolele into my pack, and head off into the mountains for an afternoon of joy and adventure in the sunshine.
If you could take a month long trip anywhere in the world, where would you go?
Ireland! I’d love to travel to County Cork, in Southern Ireland, where my kin immigrated from generations ago. One day I hope to be able to go there and explore, and see if I can find the places they used to live and play.
You have a whole weekend to binge watch TV, what's on your list?
Grey’s Anatomy, Parks & Rec, or The Office. Oh, and definitely Game of Thrones!
Tell us something about yourself that we may be surprised to learn.
I have gone to school in some surprising places! As part of my undergraduate degree, I studied at the American University in Cairo, Egypt, and I completed by graduate education in Belfast, Northern Ireland.
