Birth Doula | Acupuncture

Annie is a Nationally Board Certified and North Carolina Licensed Acupuncturist and Professional Birth Doula. She practices Worsley style Five Flame Element Acupuncture and studied at Wu Hsing Tao School in Seatlle, WA and her doula training is through toLabor in Chicago. Annie is honored to support families with all sorts of goals and preferences for their birth. She’s especially skilled at supporting her clients in gaining the tools and resources they desire to reduce fear and make informed decisions. Annie is also working towards earning her Hypnobabies Childbirth Hypnosis Doula credential, expected summer 2020. How did you decide to become a doula?

The first birth I attended was a truly incredible outdoor birth. It was one of the most magical experiences of my life. Giving birth outside at home is certainly unique and not for everyone, but seeing this mother’s dream realized inspired me to support all birthing people to have their births of their dreams - whatever that may look like. I’ve personally had very different birth experiences, including a planned home birth that ended up being a medicated hospital birth and a home water birth. Being able to help my clients realize their vision for their birth is what inspired me to pursue being a doula and keeps me in love with this work today. 

What's your favorite way to spend a day off?

I would go for a long hike in the woods and then sit and have coffee or chai in a cozy local coffee shop.

If you could take a month long trip anywhere in the world, where would you go?

This is a tricky one! Although it’s been a really long time since I’ve been anywhere, travel is, by far, one of the most important and meaningful aspects of my life. My ultimate dream would be to do a childbirth education retreat and volunteer as a doula/acupuncturist with Ibu Robin Lim in Bali, Indonesia 

You have a whole weekend to binge watch TV, what's on your list? 

I rarely get a chance to sit and watch something, but when I do it has to be mindless entertainment so I can turn my brain off. Probably a comedy like Arrested Development or 30 Rock. Or maybe a RomCom :)

Tell us something about yourself that we may be surprised to learn.  

I was on the Oprah show when I was 10 years old.
