Birth Doula

Lauren is a DONA International Certified Doula. She began her career as a doula in Chicago in 2012 before relocating to Asheville in 2015.

Lauren’s primary goal as a doula is to bring a calming, nurturing presence to families as they welcome their babies. She offers guidance free of judgement, evidence-based information, and fosters a sense of strength and comfort during each family’s unique experience. Lauren has experience attending vaginal, cesarean, and VBAC births in hospitals and birth centers.

How did you decide to become a doula?

As soon as I learned what a doula was I knew it was for me. My interest in women’s health, pregnancy and childbirth was sparked at an early age. My mother’s account of her labor and delivery was magical to me. Her story ignited curiosity and fascination. What I realized after having my own three unique childbirth experiences was how amazing this process is. After not having a doula at my first birth, I was able to personally experience the value a doula added to my the births of my second and third daughters.

I truly believe in the mind-body connection. When your mind is at peace and in the moment, your body knows. It can make a big difference in your birth experience, not only physically, but in how you feel after your childbirth - however your labor and delivery goes. My doula was an integral part of me being emotionally, mentally, and physically ready for my childbirth journey, and whatever came along with it. It is an honor for me to get to be that person for my clients.

What’s your favorite way to spend a day off?

Slow mornings, big breakfasts, a walk with my family outside. Maybe a trip to the farmer’s market and then cooking a big meal together.

If you could take a month long trip anywhere in the world, where would you go?

I have always wanted to visit Greece. I imagine myself on the island of Crete, feet in the sand, eating olives, and drinking wine.

You have a whole weekend to binge watch TV, what’s on your list?

Jane the Virgin, Handmaid’s Tale… Parenthood was my all-time fave.

Tell us something about yourself that we may be surprised to learn.

I love karaoke! The lights, the adrenalin, the bad singing. It’s the best! Also, I am a HUGE Harry Potter nerd, and I’m working hard to make my daughters the same!
